As a Montrealer, we know that our weather can be very unpredictable. It can be sunny and hot one day and cold and rainy the next.
Sunday was a cold and rainy day and i think comfort food is the only thing that brings us to peace on these types of days. So i thought why not make some good old warm chili.....So i did! and I'm sharing my recipe with you! The recipe seems long but it's really easy to do.
INGREDIENTS:
Makes up to 6 servings(Perfect for two: makes great left-overs)
- 1/2 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 pound lean ground turkey
- 1 large onion (chopped)
- 1 teaspoon salt (taste while cooking before adding extra salt)
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 3 yellow peppers (chopped)
- 1 large tomato (chopped)
- 1/2 cup mild salsa
- 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 can corn (drained and rinsed)
- 1 can kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
- 3 tablespoons chili powder (can start with two table spoons depending on your liking)
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder (can substitute with one large chopped garlic clove)
- 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper (start with one and add more if you like)
- 1 teaspoon hot chili flakes (optional)
PREPARATION
STEP 1: In a large sauce pan (on medium to high heat) throw in the ingredients highlighted in PURPLE - pour olive oil over ingredients until slightly covered and cook until meat is slightly browned and broken apart
STEP 2: Add ingredients highlighted in BLUE and stir well, then add ingredients highlighted in YELLOW and stir well. Once everything is added cover the sauce pan and reduce heat. Let simmer and stir occasionally, for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Voilà!
Yummy chili in my tummy!!
For extra flavor add grated cheese and a tablespoon of sour cream
The best part of a chili dish......
eating it in front of the tv on a sunday afternoon
My hubby enjoying my chili
Fun tip: Chili can be eaten in quite a few ways. It can be eaten straight out of a bowl, in a hard taco, in a fajita, or over tostito chips covered with melted cheese that came straight out of the oven!!
